You have probably seen this video, but review is always good!

Houston FD L-19 vents the roof vertically on this one, note how rapidly the conditions improve. Also note the designated “RIT” team in full gear ready & STAGED for battle.

Great Truck Work….aggresive vertical ventilation does the trick. Truck work is way overlooked in the FWB area. Some chiefs think as long as they have 3 engines (and sometimes less than that), they are good…no concern with aggresive ventilation coordinated with an agressive interior attack. One day this is gonna get a brother hurt or killed (lack of ventilation). Some officers need to visit VENTILATION 101 again!

AMEN BROTHER NoLove!!! Maybe we can start to see a much more progressive stance when the “old blood” retires. Truck work is an area not many chiefs understand, so they don’t stress the use or importance of it. It takes well trained crews to coordinate a vent/attack scenarios. And you don’t have to have a “stick” to do truck work, 75% of all the truck work is done without the “truck”. We need to understand that what we learned in minimum standards was just that, THE MINIMUM! Advanced knowledge in this area is an out right requirement! I guess some “chiefs” are showing us they don’t have advanced knowledge.

Firemanrick is right, this IS the land of trengines! smaller dept’s must adapt the mindset of a truck & an engine all at once. All to often around these parts there is not enough manpower to do either!

Well like someone said on another blog…Christmas comes in March. Many changes to come in the OCW & FWB areas for 2008!
